The Sustrin Twins
The Sustrin Twins
Sheila & Letty Sustrin
During their years of teaching, they always shared
ideas with each other and even shared the honor of
being
Brentwood’s 1978 “Teacher of the Year.”
After teaching for 38 years in the Brentwood, New
York, School District, Sheila and Letty Sustrin,
identical twin sisters, retired. After retirement,
they missed the interaction with youngsters.
Wouldn’t it be fun to return to school and read
stories to the children? What could they do to make
the children laugh and be happy? All these
questions led to the start of a new career.

Ms. S. and Ms. L., as they are called by their former
students, penned a humorous picture book, "
The
Teacher Who Would Not Retire
." Their main
character, Mrs. Belle, is a teacher who truly loves
her profession.
Children and adults of all ages have embraced the lovable Mrs. Belle so the Sustrins have written
a sequel titled, "
The Teacher Who Would Not Retire Goes To Camp."

Ms. S. and Ms. L. continue their involvement with children by helping at school events like Book
Fairs, Holiday Fairs, and Reading Day.

The Twins and their new Scottish Terrier, Belle, named after Mrs. Belle, reside on Long Island,
New York.
